More about us

Hear from one of our whānau

Our whānau had an incredibly positive and memorable experience at Hornby Pasifika. Although we have since moved out of the area, the care, aroha, and unwavering support shown by the kaimahi continue to stay with us and will always be remembered with deep gratitude.

From day one, the environment felt nurturing, inclusive, and genuinely centered around the wellbeing of tamariki and their whānau. We were fortunate to witness many standout moments from Shalini and Vernon [kaiako], who consistently demonstrated dedication, warmth, and professionalism on an almost daily basis. Their presence made a significant difference in our child’s confidence and sense of belonging. That said, every kaimahi contributed positively. They were engaging, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about the mahi they do.

One of the aspects we truly valued was the centre’s strong commitment to cultural diversity. Hornby Pasifika intentionally wove different cultural perspectives, practices, and values into its curriculum, creating an environment where children felt seen, respected, and celebrated for who they are. This foundation of inclusivity fostered empathy, understanding, and connection among the tamariki.

Our child is an only child, and one of our hopes in enrolling her was to support her social development and encourage kindness, leadership, and collaboration. Through the strong guidance, modelling, and nurturing at Hornby Pasifika, she naturally grew into a caring, helpful, and considerate friend, especially towards younger tamariki. Seeing these qualities develop affirmed for us that the centre was achieving exactly what we had hoped for our child.

Additionally, our child has a speech delay, and the support she received in this area was nothing short of empowering. The kaimahi created a safe and encouraging space for her to practice her communication at her own pace. Whether through leading karakia or waiata, or simply being given the time and patience to respond without pressure, she grew in confidence and willingness to express herself. This thoughtful, responsive approach made a meaningful impact on her development and self-belief.

Hornby Pasifika has played a significant role in shaping our child’s early learning journey. We are deeply thankful for the care, dedication, and heart shown by the entire team. While our path has taken us elsewhere, the lessons, values, and positive experiences our child gained will remain with us always.

- Quest, former Hornby Pasifika parent

Convenience

Our aim is to create the best conditions for your child's learning, wellbeing and care. We also know how important it is to give you the convenience you need and reassurance that your child is in safe hands. Our central location, loving team and tailored environment are all waiting to be discovered by your whānau.

Extended hours for working parents and Storypark - our online parent communication tool, are just some of the ways we try to make things a little easier for whānau. Local excursions, delicious meals and fun activities are just the beginning when it comes to being the best we can be for your child.

Engaging environment

Our happy and nurturing environment will inspire, stimulate and empower your child to learn in their own unique way. The outdoor spaces challenge and excite the imagination, while our spacious and light filled indoor areas offer room for reading, rest, and engaging indoor learning experiences. Our children love painting, waiata and the many natural play areas they have to discover.

Connecting with the outdoors

We only know who we are, by knowing where we come from. That's why building a strong connection with nature and our local community is so important. We believe it helps your child develop a sense of belonging and identity and positively influences their learning experiences.

We're so lucky to have so many wonderful options on our doorstep here in Hornby. We grow our own vegetable and herbs in our garden and go on community excursions to the local park, the Hornby hub shopping centre and do weekly transition visits at Hornby Primary school.

Nutrition and wellbeing

We strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals and snacks to support physical and mental development. Our kai is inspired by Pasifika flavour. We encourage healthy eating habits and offer a balanced menu to keep your child well-fueled throughout the day.

Your child will enjoy:

  • Morning snack
  • Afternoon snack

Our centre is nut free and we're happy to cater for any allergy or other dietary requirements as required.

Te Korowai Mokopuna

“Wrap the cloak around the child”

Te Korowai Mokopuna provides on-site wraparound support for whānau, meeting immediate needs and offering early help in a trusted, familiar environment - without stigma or delay.

We work to reduce barriers to education, increase participation, model positive parenting, provide group programmes, and deliver social services. Te Korowai Mokopuna empowers whānau to raise tamariki who stand on strong foundations, with māiatanga (realising potential).

It lets whānau know that it is okay to ask for help and that support is available whenever it is needed.

Growing Kaitiaki

Tamariki at our Hornby Pasifika Early Learning Centre have been proudly stepping into the role of kaitiaki (guardians) as they care for their newly established māra kai (garden). This special space gives tamariki the opportunity to nurture and protect their natural learning environment while developing a deep sense of responsibility for the kai (food) they are growing.

Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

Hornby Pasifika set the tone for the week with a powerful celebration. Whaea Kate opened with a warm welcome, before three of our tamariki proudly shared a mihi rākau. All tamariki then joined together in waiata for our manuhiri, followed by the McLeod whānau, who gifted us their pepeha and a waiata.
