Our Central North home based educator conference brought our educators together in the spirit of kotahitanga.

It was a powerful weekend filled with inspiring kōrero, cultural sharing, practical workshops, and heartfelt moments that celebrated the important mahi our educators do with tamariki and whānau.

Our CEO, Matt Reid, opened the day with an inspiring kōrero about the powerful impact our organisation is having on tamariki and how we can continue to build on this important mahi. Following him, Chief Operating Officer Heather Taylor shared a heartfelt reminder that every one of us contributes to the positive outcomes we see in our tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau.

The workshops offered a vibrant mix of fun, singing, and learning, with some fantastic takeaways for our educators. Kaiako Rosie and Veta from our Porirua centre enriched our cultural knowledge by sharing beautiful Samoan phrases and songs. Senior Advisor Judah introduced a valuable toolkit on neurodiversity, helping us deepen our understanding of diverse learning needs. Meanwhile, Assistant Service Delivery manager Dianne led our Engage team through an inspiring play-based rotation, offering practical insights that home based educators can apply in their everyday practice.

One particularly touching moment came when visiting teachers proudly read affirmations to each of their educators. It was moving to witness the depth of these relationships and the ongoing support they provide. Operations Manager Hayley also shared affirmations for her team, taking the time to introduce each person and their role within Barnardos Early Learning. It was a lovely way to celebrate our collective efforts.

By the end of the conference, it felt as though we were saying goodbye to friends rather than just colleagues or acquaintances. A special thank you goes to Regional Business Administrator Gaby, who did an outstanding job with the catering. The food was delicious, and there were even leftovers thoughtfully packed for those with a longer journey home.

This conference was a powerful reminder of how, together, we can continue to nurture and support tamariki and their whānau with aroha and dedication. We look forward to the next time we come together in this spirit of kotahitanga.
