Kia ora!

Kia ora!

I’m Deloshnee, Centre Manager of Māngere Early Learning Centre. I've been a part of the Barnardos whānau for over seven years and can't wait to welcome your family into our community.

About this centre

Māngere Early Learning Centre is a diverse, spacious, and stimulating environment where your child will thrive.

We’re proud to be part of a vibrant community of diverse cultures, where your child’s individuality is always embraced and celebrated.

The vegetable garden in our beautiful outdoor space provides us with fresh kai, and we love practicing environmental care through our "Growing with Waste" worm farm kits! We teach our tamariki about sustainable practices and the importance of waste reduction.

Māngere has a special meaning to Barnardos – it’s where the first Barnardos service was established. Our first home was set up at 33 Cape Road, Māngere, in 1972, offering our first services to tamariki. The site and its community hold huge significance and now house our Auckland Regional Office.

Open-plan indoor spaces allow your child’s curiosity to flourish, enabling them to learn and discover at their own pace.

Convenience

Our aim is to create the best conditions for your child's learning, wellbeing, and care. We also know how important it is to give you the convenience you need and reassurance that your child is in safe hands. Our central Mangere town location, loving team, and tailored environment are all waiting to be discovered by your whānau.

Located just a 10-minute drive from Auckland Airport, near many local primary schools and Māngere town centre, our whānau enjoy the central location.

Extended hours, a pram parking zone, and Storypark – our online parent communication tool – are just some of the ways we try to make things a little easier for parents. Local excursions, delicious meals, and fun activities are just the beginning when it comes to being the best we can be for your child.

Engaging environment

Our happy and nurturing environment will inspire, stimulate and empower your child to learn in their own unique way. The outdoor spaces challenge and excite the imagination, while our spacious and light filled indoor areas offer room for reading, rest, and engaging indoor learning experiences. Our tamariki love painting, waitata and the many natural play areas they have to discover.

Connecting with the community

We only know who we are by knowing where we come from. That’s why building strong connections with nature and our local community is so important. With over 55 years of mahi working with tamariki and whānau in Māngere, Barnardos is committed to ensuring we continue to meet the needs of the community. We believe fostering this connection helps your child develop a sense of belonging and identity, positively influencing their learning experiences.

The Māngere Project is very close to our heart. The project is focused on how we can best use our site to support the Māngere community. Whatever we decide will require financial resources and the right people to make it happen. We are committed to working with the Māngere community to realise the possibilities. If you wish to be part of this and get involved, reach out – we’d love to hear from you.

Nutrition and wellbeing

We strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals and snacks to support physical and mental development. We encourage healthy eating habits and offer a balanced menu to keep your child well fueled throughout the day. The children also love being involved and we use the vegetables and herbs we grow, in our meals.

Your child will enjoy the following depending on the hours they are at the centre:

  • Breakfast
  • Morning snack
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon snack

Our centre is nut free and we're happy to cater for any allergy or other dietary requirements as required. We also cater for any cultural or religious needs so just ask us how.

Staff who nurture and inspire

Like our tamariki, our dedicated and qualified staff come from diverse backgrounds. We are caring, whānau-oriented, and always willing to listen.

Our qualified and experienced teachers are committed to caring for and nurturing your child. They build strong connections with each child throughout their early learning journey and go out of their way to ensure every child feels supported and that their unique needs are met.

Our teachers create positive opportunities for your child to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally. They help guide your child as they navigate new friendships, master new skills, and build independence and resilience to prepare for school and lay the foundations for lifelong learning.

Te Korowai Mokopuna

“Wrap the cloak around the child”

Te Korowai Mokopuna provides on-site wraparound support for whānau, meeting immediate needs and offering early help in a trusted, familiar environment - without stigma or delay.

We work to reduce barriers to education, increase participation, model positive parenting, provide group programmes, and deliver social services. Te Korowai Mokopuna empowers whānau to raise tamariki who stand on strong foundations, with māiatanga (realising potential).

It lets whānau know that it is okay to ask for help and that support is available whenever it is needed.

"Growing with Waste" worm farms!

We are excited to share that our Māngere Early Learning Centre has received ‘Growing with Waste” worm farm kits, bringing lots of smiles and curiosity to our tamariki We want to extend our gratitude to AMC Commercial Cleaning for including us in this initiative aimed at teaching young people about the positive potential of food waste. It has been fascinating to learn how lunchbox leftovers, art paper scraps and even teachers’ tea bags can be turned into something positive, rather than ending up in the bin. Not only is it a fun project, this hands-on-learning experience is teaching the next generation the importance of sustainability and how small actions can have a big impact. Ka pai!

Mainly Music first session

Mainly Music

We are delighted to welcome Mainly Music facilitators to our Māngere Early Learning Centre in 2025! Weekly sessions will include songs, rhymes, actions and movement designed to engage our tamariki in a rich learning environment. Parents and whānau are encouraged to join us to participate in the fun together.

Māngere Waitangi Day

Te Rā o Waitangi 2026

We celebrated Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) with waiata (songs), stories, and role-play. Tamariki (children) created Koru shapes, painted native birds and trees, and helped harvest the garden. These shared activities nurtured whanaungatanga (connection), creativity, and a sense of belonging while connecting to the stories and values of Aotearoa.
