Aroha Week: Celebrating kindness and kotahitanga

This Valentine’s Day, our Early Learning Centres across the motu chose to celebrate something even bigger than a single day. Instead of focusing on just one moment, our centres embraced a full week of aroha, creating space for kindness, awhi and belonging to shine.

Aroha Week was all about amplifying kotahitanga and whakawhanaungatanga across our Early Learning Centres. It was a time for tamariki and kaimahi to pause, reflect and intentionally share appreciation for one another. Throughout the week, our centres were transformed with hearts displayed on walls and learning spaces, each one carrying thoughtful messages of kindness.

Kaiako and tamariki shared words of encouragement, gratitude and care, writing special messages for one another and placing them around the centre. Every child and adult had kind words to read, reminding them just how valued they are. The simple act of sharing and receiving these messages created powerful moments of connection and joy.

There were smiles, hugs, colourful creations and genuine expressions of manaakitanga woven throughout the week. Valentine’s Day became a beautiful highlight, giving everyone the opportunity to express what they love about their friends, teachers and whānau.

At its heart, Aroha Week was about nurturing relationships. These moments strengthen the sense of belonging within our centres and remind tamariki that their words and actions have the power to uplift others. When we intentionally practise kindness, we grow confident, caring learners who understand the importance of community.

Ngā mihi to everyone who helped spread aroha across our centres this week and always. The warmth created during Aroha Week is something we will continue to carry with us.
