Kia ora koutou katoa and welcome!

I’m Chantelle, the Centre Manager here at Barnardos Cromwell Early Learning Centre. I’m passionate about creating a natural, nurturing environment where tamariki can grow and learn at their own pace, celebrating every milestone along the way. Our team values joy, honesty, respect, and strong relationships — both with tamariki and whānau. My background spans many roles in early childhood education, and I love mentoring and learning alongside our kaiako. I look forward to welcoming you and your tamariki to our centre.

About this centre

Cromwell Early Learning Centre is a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment with spacious areas to stimulate and develop your child’s natural curiosities.

  • Your child will be inspired and stimulated by our rich array of play-based experiences in our indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Our tamariki love to play in the secret cave and explore our community.
  • We have a vegetable garden and fruit trees that our tamariki help tend to and we often bake using ingredients from these.

Convenience

Our goal is to create the very best environment for your child’s learning, wellbeing and care. We understand how important it is for whānau to have convenience and peace of mind, knowing your tamaiti is safe, happy and supported. Our central location, caring kaiako, and thoughtfully designed spaces are all here for your whānau to explore.

With flexible part and full day options, and Storypark—our online parent communication tool—we make it easier for you to stay connected and involved. From local excursions to hands-on activities, every experience is designed to help your child grow, learn and thrive.

Engaging environment

Our happy and nurturing environment will inspire, stimulate and empower your child to learn in their own unique way. The outdoor spaces challenge and excite the imagination, while our spacious and light filled indoor areas offer room for reading, rest, and engaging indoor learning experiences. Our children love the sandpit, playing dressups, with puzzles, singing waiata and enjoying the many natural play areas they have to discover.

Staff who nurture and inspire

Our qualified and experienced teachers are committed to caring for and nurturing your child. They build a strong connection with each child throughout their early learning journey and go out of their way to ensure every child feels supported and their unique needs are met.

Our teachers create positive opportunities for your child to develop physically, mentally and emotionally. They help guide your child as they navigate new friendships, master new skills and build independence and resilience to get ready for school and lay the foundations for lifelong learning.

Connecting with the outdoors

We only know who we are, by knowing where we come from. That's why building a strong connection with nature and our local community is so important. We believe it helps your child develop a sense of belonging and identity and positively influences their learning experiences.

We're so lucky to have so many wonderful options on our doorstep here in Cromwell. We grow our own vegetable and herbs in our garden and have weekly local activities we enjoy.

Nutrition and wellbeing

Each tamaiti brings a lunchbox prepared by their whānau, filled with the foods they enjoy. This gives whānau the opportunity to share their child’s favourite flavours while supporting healthy eating habits.

Our tamariki also help care for our veggie, herb, and berry gardens, discovering where food comes from and learning through hands-on experiences. From planting and watering to harvesting, they develop curiosity, responsibility, and a love of nature. We even do baking using fruits from our apple and feijoa trees, and snack on our grapes, raspberries and boysenberries, giving tamariki a tasty way to connect with what they’ve grown.

For everyone’s safety, we are also a nut-free centre.

Connecting with whānau

Our whole community benefits from families and whanau being involved in our centre and their children's learning. Connecting with you via Storypark and celebrating festivals are just some of the ways we include families and whānau.
